Trimble acquire RolleiMetric

PRESS RELEASE:

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep. 17, 2008 Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of RolleiMetric from Rollei GmbH of Braunschweig, Germany in an all-cash transaction. RolleiMetric is a leading provider of metric camera systems for aerial imaging and terrestrial close range photogrammetry. Closing of the transaction, anticipated at the beginning of the fourth quarter, is subject to certain closing conditions. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The purchase of the RolleiMetric products broadens Trimble's portfolio of engineering scale mapping and asset management solutions. RolleiMetric's Aerial Industrial Camera (AIC) has established an excellent reputation with aerial mapping system original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and end users, and complements Trimble's existing Spatial Imaging solutions as well as aerial imaging solutions offered by its subsidiaries Applanix and INPHO. Additionally, RolleiMetric personnel will enable Trimble to bring metric camera optics and mechanical design expertise in-house. With a customer base in Europe, North and South America, and Asia, RolleiMetric products are used by service companies collecting geospatial data by photogrammetry as well as state authorities and municipalities involved in supplying geospatial information. "RolleiMetric complements our existing Integrated Surveying, Spatial Imaging, Site Positioning, Mapping and GIS, and Mobile Mapping solutions. Our focus is on integrating these solutions to streamline the collection and maintenance of high accuracy as-built drawings for the transportation, civil engineering, and utilities and energy transmission and distribution industries," said Ken Spratlin, director for strategy and business development for Trimble. "As part of the Trimble Connected Site solutions, high accuracy as-builts enable advanced process and workflow integration from the design phase through construction to the subsequent maintenance phase—delivering significant improvements in productivity."

"RolleiMetric provides a core competency in metric camera optics and mechanical design to augment Trimble's portfolio of solutions," said Tobias Toelg, managing director of RolleiMetric. "The acquisition provides us access to Trimble's global resources that we can leverage to better serve our existing and future clients worldwide. We are pleased to become a part of Trimble." Tobias Toelg and the staff of RolleiMetric will join Trimble and will be reported as part of the Engineering and Construction segment.

NEW: RolleiMetric AOS – Aero Oblique System

RolleiMetric pronounced the new AOS – Aero Oblique System.

This three-head solution for simultaneous capturing of nadir and oblique aerial images has been developed in cooperation with Alpha Luftbild, Berlin.
The camera operates with a unique automatic rotated camera unit to shoot all four oblique directions. The AOS is designed for city modelling and visualizations.

The camera uses three RolleiMetric AICPro camera systems with 39 megapixel each.
The nadir and the oblique images are captured simultaneous.
The complete camera unit will be rotated by 90 degrees after each release to get oblique images in all four directions.
The complete camera unit is located inside the plane during take-off and landing and will be automatically extended during operation.

NEW: NIKON D700

The D700, the new top model of the NIKON digital SLR cameras is now also available as calibrated camera system for photogrammetric applications.

The D700 use Nikon's original FX-format CMOS image sensor with 36.0 mm x 23.9 mm image size and 12.1 effective megapixels.
The camera can be equipped with a wide range of fixed and calibrated lenses from 20 mm focal length.

The NIKON D700 calibrated by RolleiMetric will be delivered with fixed and calibrated lenses and with the protocol of the radial-symmetric distortion. The camera can be used for all type of close range photogrammetric applications.

Panoscan Mark III at Helsinki University of Technology

The Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) decided after an international bidding for a panoramic camera to purchase a Panoscan Mark III.

The camera was delivered by RolleiMetric in August 2008. Some of the outstanding characteristics of the camera are the modular system which allows to customize the complete solution as well as the speed of capturing the images. The TKK use the panorama camera for training and education as well as for measuring tasks.
